Position: My position is that the United States must annex the Philippines in order to support United States interests in the Pacific as well as to prevent a forign power from taking the Philippines themselves.
Reasoning:
My reasoning for annexing the Philippines is a follows. The Philippines already present a large investment of economic and military resources. The Philippinoes have a very weak infrastructure and economy and require our aid in order to be successful. Furthermore, a continued American presence in the Philippines will be needed to address the appaling illetericy rates that are on the island. Finally, in Americas own interests the annexation of these islands will be a point of vast trade between America and the far east and will protect the Philippineoes frome occupation by naitons that would be oppressive.
